Digital Foundations for Refugees & Vulnerable Youth

The Digital Foundations Pathway is designed specifically for beginners, especially refugees and vulnerable youth who are new to computers, smartphones, online environments, and digital tools. This pathway builds essential digital confidence, starting from the basics of using devices, navigating the internet safely, understanding productivity tools, and developing the digital literacy required for work, learning, and daily life in a technology-driven world.
Through accessible and beginner-friendly Coursera courses, learners gain the fundamental skills needed to access opportunities, participate in education, and prepare for more advanced pathways such as Tech, Entrepreneurship, or Creative Skills.

Requirements for the Program

  • Must be a refugee or vulnerable youth targeted by RYCM programs.
  • No prior digital experience is required—this pathway welcomes complete beginners.
  • Ability to commit to 4 months of basic online learning.
  • Access to a smartphone, tablet, or laptop with basic internet connectivity.
  • Willingness to learn simple digital tasks and complete beginner activities.

Senior Requirement (Who This Pathway Is Best For)

This pathway is ideal for learners who:

  • Have little to no experience with computers, smartphones, or digital tools.
  • Want to gain basic digital literacy before advancing to other technical programs.
  • Need essential computer and internet skills for school, work, or communication.
  • Often feel left behind by technology and want a safe, supportive place to start.
  • Want to understand how to use online platforms, email, productivity tools, and safe digital practices.

What a Student Will Learn
